Do you understand the speech of your grandparents, friends, or acquaintances from other parts of our country when they speak in dialect? And do they understand you? – ask the curators of the exhibition “Critically Endangered Phenomena of Our Dialects.” The exhibition offers visitors dialect maps, authentic audio recordings from various periods, and interactive elements that show how language has changed over the decades. One of these elements is a sound map featuring both archival and more recent recordings that document the dynamics of dialect development over the past fifty years. The exhibition showcases the richness and diversity of dialects, highlights their gradual decline, and presents research findings. As part of the exhibition, you can participate in dialect mapping research conducted by the Dialectology Department of the Institute of the Czech Language of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno. The Science and Art Gallery in the building of the Czech Academy of Sciences at Národní 3 cordially invites you to the interactive exhibition Critically Endangered Phenomena of Our Dialects.
